Rob Gibbon has been making custom shoes since 2016, when he began to learn the craft from Bill Shanor, Master Shoemaker, in Ashland, Oregon.  Rob specializes in Derby-style footwear and stitch down construction.

When you purchase a pair of custom-made handcrafted shoes from Rob you can expect a really nice fit, all leather construction, high quality materials, and a pair of shoes that can be repaired indefinitely when they wear down, as all shoes eventually do.  In fact, for a fraction of the original cost, the shoes can be brought back to like-new condition.  This means you are not only helping yourself, but also helping to take care of the world.

To start the process.

Call or text Rob at (250)826-0473 to make an appointment for a free consultation.  Either in-person or by ZOOM, you can discuss your footwear needs and ideas, what your timeline is, and make an appointment for measuring, should you decide to proceed.

Measuring your feet.

Set aside an hour or two.  Come to the shop in Fintry, BC, or make arrangements for Rob to meet you at your location.  Rob will take measurements and tracings of your feet.  Measurements are taken in both sitting and standing positions.  Make sure you wear the weight of socks or stockings that you anticipate wearing in your new custom-made shoes, once they are completed. From the measurements, Rob will construct a “Fitter Pair” (a roughly put-together unlined leather slipper designed to test the fit of the last) which he will use during a second measurement session he will schedule with you.  A $300.00 deposit is required at the time of the first measurement session.

Currently, Rob makes Derby Shoes, Hiking Boots, and Ballet Flats.  Within the category of Derby Shoes, there are many styles and patterns that are possible, as you will notice if you do an internet search.  We suggest searching “Derby Shoes” in images.google.com for some ideas.  Feel free to discuss any ideas you have with Rob during your free consultation or during your measurement appointment.

 

Making your shoes.

​The time it takes to have your shoes made varies, depending on the current workload.  You can expect to receive your new custom-made shoes within 1-3 months.  At the time of delivery, the balance owing is due.  All work is guaranteed.
